Jordan Blackwell, who finished 5th in the EC in wins above replacement with 3.9 last year, knocked in 3 runs to help the Chicago Union win, 7-4, over the New York City Gothams. Leonardo Basora earned the win to go to 1-0. He allowed 3 runs on 7 hits, with 1 walk and 9 strikeouts in 7.2 innings of work. Josh Kingsbury notched his 1st save of the season.

It could have been a different outcome for Chicago, had it not been for Sam Chapman, the 25-year old first baseman . Chapman contributed a 2-run single in the top of the third inning to put Chicago up, 3-0.

"There's so many different ways you can win a game," said winning manager Ron Chiu.

With the win, Chicago climbs to 6-2.
