Peanuts Deny Cutthroats, 4-3
|
The San Francisco Peanuts topped the Denver Cutthroats, 4-3, in Western Circuit action at Garibaldi's Grounds. The standout performance belonged to San Francisco pitcher and Holtsville, New York, native Kevin Keeth. Keeth yielded 3 runs over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4. His record improves to 7-3. The second-place Peanuts are now 40-27, the Cutthroats 36-31.
Had Alfredo Zamarripa not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Zamarripa hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Peanuts.
"I'm just trying to make good contact," said Zamarripa, "one at-bat at a time."
