The inspired effort of Chicago center fielder Erik Smith was not enough to prevent a loss, 3-2, to the New York City Gothams. Smith belted 2 home runs. The save went to Caleb Fleming, number 2 for him. The Gothams move to 26-26 with the win, while the Union drop to 29-23.

The Gothams got a big at-bat from second baseman Brock Metcalf. For the game, Metcalf went 1 for 4 with a home run. In the top of the sixth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 5th home run of the season gave New York City a 2-1 lead.

"Our offense was purring," said New York City manager Jacob Sanders. "Like a well-oiled machine."
