With Late Score, Loons Beat Cutthroats
|
The Denver Cutthroats could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Jouko Niemelä into a win. Instead, the Minnesota Loons prevailed, 4-3. Niemelä threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball. The win boosted Minnesota to 28-19.
The Loons beat the Cutthroats in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Scott Poppe produced in the bottom of the eighth. Batting against Junro Yano, Poppe gave his team the lead, 4-3, when he hit a run-scoring single.
Poppe called the win the result of "everyone working in tandem."
