Conditions were not ideal but Philadelphia and Chicago were able to put their game in the books.
The Philadelphia Keystones defeated the Chicago Union, 6-3, in Eastern Circuit action at Keystones Stadium. Alan Calloway pulled his weight. The 11-year veteran went 2-4 with a home run. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Brandon Beech got the win, improving to 2-2. He held the Union to 2 runs on 5 hits over 5.2 innings, while striking out 4 and walking 1.
Freddy Martinez drew 1 walk for Philadelphia. The slick-fielding shortstop had a key at-bat in the bottom of the second. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring walk off Jon Naugle. It was his 2nd walk of the season.
"Good, gritty kind of win," said Keystones manager Corey Anderson.
The Keystones, with just their 4th win in 17 games, have played uninspired baseball so far.
