Tampa Bay Thunder pitcher Dave Slaughter was all business, helping his team muzzle the Detroit Motors, 4-1. Slaughter, now 2-1, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 8, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. The Motors drop to 3-7 and continue their inconsistent start to the 2025 season.
Bob Gibbons had a big run-scoring double for the Thunder in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Tampa Bay leading 2-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from 24-year old left-handed pitcher Ed Martinez and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 2nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Thunder ahead, 3-1.
Gibbons called the win "a pick-me-upper."
