Potomacs Crowned Champions Friday, October 21st , 2022 For the D.C. Potomacs, it was a joyful time; for the Southern California Empires, it was gloom and doom. With a 5-3 win at Empires Stadium, D.C. closed out the championship 4-2 over Southern California. The Potomacs have now won their 1st league championship in franchise history. The streets around the Potomacs' stadium were a mob scene, filling quickly with fans, while banners and flags were held high and waved proudly. "It's unbelievable for us, our great fans, and all of D.C.," said a smiling owner Sam Marshall. "The guys really put their heart and soul into this season and it paid off for them." In a somewhat somber and dejected Empires clubhouse, manager Matt Thompson said his team "just didn't get the job done." "The Potomacs played as good as any team I've seen and deserve to be champions," he said. The champs finished the regular season 91-71 and claimed second place in the Eastern Semi-Pro Circuit.
