Detroit Announces Simpkins Will Retire Friday, September 2nd , 2022 Flanked by his two young children, Darryl Simpkins said his reason for retirement is simple. "I want to spend more time being a father now," the Detroit Chargers left fielder said in announcing that this season would be his last in pro baseball. "I'm 38 years old now, I think it's a good time to go." Lifetime Simpkins has hit for a .280 average and totaled 485 hits, 71 home runs and 272 RBIs. |
