Hernandez Too Tough, Blanks Boston
Friday, August 6th , 2021
Sergio Hernandez of the Chicago Union was on top of his game.
The 27-year-old tantalized the Boston Shamrocks with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 6-0.
"He had the changeup working," Boston manager Wally Christensen said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Chicago hurler had 10 strikeouts, gave up 2 walks and surrendered 2 hits in his complete-game effort.
Hernandez told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
This season, Hernandez has compiled a 6-6 mark, 2.06 ERA and made 12 starts.
