Keeth Helps El Paso Take Cup Qualifier Game 1
|
The El Paso Diablos powered past the visiting San Francisco Peanuts, 5-3, in the opener of the Cup Qualifier at Inferno Field. El Paso starting pitcher Kevin Keeth threw 7.0 innings of 3-hit ball, to lead the charge. The Diablos now lead the series 1-0.
Had Ryan Burton not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Burton hit a bases-clearing double. That made the score 5-3, in favor of the Diablos.
"Kevin pumped strikes and he made good pitches when he had to," said El Paso manager Joe Peters.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Inferno Field in El Paso.
