The San Francisco Peanuts started the Play-in Series in style, downing the visiting Atlanta Pilots at Garibaldi's Grounds by a score of 7-2 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Peanuts right-hander Leo Canales threw 7.1 innings allowing 1 run.

In his 117-pitch effort, Canales allowed 1 run on 7 hits over 7.1 innings. He walked 2 and struck out 11.

"A confident pitcher is a dangerous thing," said San Francisco manager Keven Berman. "That's what Leo is right now."
