The St. Louis Lions did just enough to sneak past the Chicago Union, 4-3, at The Lions Hearth. St. Louis center fielder Jerry Fleet, in particular, had a standout performance. Ron Clous went 7.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits. The right-hander, who led the PBC in strikeouts with 208 in 2013, struck out 8 and walked 4. With the win, he's now 10-4 this season. The win for the Lions raised their record to 38-26.

With St. Louis trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the second, Fleet hit a sinker from Jean-Sébastien Bellot for a 2-run home run. It was his 11th home run of the season and put the Lions ahead, 2-1.

"See ball, hit ball. When I think too much, that's when I get in trouble," Fleet told the St. Louis Bulletin.
