The Miami Sun Sox topped the Washington Warriors, 5-4, the lion's share of the credit going to catcher Jose Cruz. On the day, Cruz was 3 for 3 with 3 singles and a walk for the Sun Sox. Jurg van Gelderen picked up the win with 5.2 innings of work. He allowed 3 runs on 5 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 7. On the season, he is now 2-10. Aaron Laughlin picked up the save, his 5th.

There was more than one reason the Sun Sox beat the Warriors, but Cruz's big at-bat in the top of the second was an important factor. He staked his team to a 1-0 lead when he hit a run-scoring single.

"Both teams played hard," said Miami manager Barry Lolicht.
