Big Day with Bat: Nelson 5-for-5
Southern California first baseman Mike Nelson had a big day at Empires Stadium against the Calgary Caracals. The 31-year-old, who is not typically considered a big threat with the bat, went 5-for-5 and led to the 14-3 Empires triumph over Calgary.

"Hey, I'm as surprised as you guys are," Nelson said in his postgame comments, smiling as he scolded the press corps for underestimating him. "Maybe I'm not so bad at the plate after all."

Mike Nelson hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Matt Ryder in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th and singled in the 7th.

Currently Nelson is batting .340 with 3 home runs, 10 RBIs and 11 runs scored.
