Sam Cross imposed his will on the Cutthroats from the get-go. Relying mainly on his slider, the right-hander spearheaded the 1-0 Las Vegas triumph. Cross yielded no runs over 7.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 2, and struck out 7. His record improves to 1-0. Billy Morris finished the game for Las Vegas and earned his 1st save.
The Aces got a big at-bat from designated hitter Austin Cox. For the game, Cox went 1-3 with a home run. In the bottom of the sixth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave Las Vegas a 1-0 lead.
"When you have a good rhythm and good flow, it's nice to just go out there and pound the strike zone with confidence," said Cross.
The loss lowers the Denver record to 2-2.
