5 Straight Wins for Diablos
|
The El Paso Diablos withstood an impressive performance by Houston first baseman Jorge Nunez to defeat the Mavericks, 6-4, at Mavericks Ballpark. Nunez was 3-4 with 3 singles. He scored 2 times. El Paso pitcher Bernie Loyola got the win. He's now 11-1. Adam Smith was tagged with the loss. The PBC West Division-leading Diablos are 65-22.
It could have been a different outcome for El Paso, had it not been for Edgar Gonzalez, the 26-year old catcher . Gonzalez contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the first inning to put El Paso up, 2-0.
"Not the sexiest win," said Diablos manager Joe Peters, "but I'll take it."
