The St. Louis Lions got a strong performance from pitcher Kevin Schuerger, who stymied the Boston offense en route to a win, 5-2, at Boston Commons. Schuerger yielded 2 runs over 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 3, and struck out 7. His record improves to 7-5. Jack Reynolds earned his 13th save, after closing out the game.
The Shamrocks had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Lions going into the top of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 31-year old third baseman Ashton Shelton came to the plate. Shelton hit a solo home run on a 0-1 splitter from Boston hurler Pat Musser. It was Shelton's 6th home run of the year.
Lions manager Leo Cruz raved about Schuerger after the game. "I thought Kevin was 'lights out.'"
The Lions own a robust 35-14 mark.
