Ryan Burton, who led the PBC in runs with 104 in 2016, had a 3-RBI night to help the El Paso Diablos down the Boston Shamrocks, 7-2. Bernie Loyola, the winner, improved to 6-0. He held the Shamrocks to 2 runs on 5 hits over 8 innings, while striking out 7 and walking 0. The Diablos now own a record of 31-12.

There was more than one reason the Diablos beat the Shamrocks, but Burton's big at-bat in the top of the third was an important factor. He staked his team to a 1-0 lead when he hit a run-scoring single.

"I think it just wasn't our night," said Boston skipper Wally Christensen.
