Phillips Terrific, Takes ESPC Most Valuable Player Award Friday, November 3rd , 2017 At age 35, many would be surprised to see Darnell Phillips still contributing strongly in Semi-Pro Baseball Circuit. But not only did he contribute, the Newark Eagles left fielder was at the top of the sport, winning the 2017 Eastern Semi-Pro Circuit Most Valuable Player Award. He captured the award with a .273 batting average and a .376 on-base percentage this year. In 156 games he piled up 161 hits, 36 doubles, 2 triples, 32 home runs, 103 RBIs and 101 runs scored. He received 17 first place votes out of a possible 20. Ron Jakubowicz of the New York Knights finished second in voting with 1 first place vote, while Daniel Gilmore of the Newark Eagles finished third.
