Time to Go: Garcia to Retire in Philadelphia Sunday, October 8th , 2017 His Philadelphia Keystones teammates were not terribly surprised when Bill Garcia announced his retirement today. In a low-key affair, Garcia explained his rationale. "My aches and pains have caught up with me. They don't seem to go away like they used to when I was a kid," he said. "I'm spending more and more time in the trainer's room and less and less time preparing for my next game. I've come to a realization that I've done what I can in this game and spending more time playing baseball is just stealing from my future self." When asked, the team manager noted "Bill has always been an honest man and when he says he's done, well, he's done." For his career, Garcia has hit at a .282 clip. Among his lifetime numbers are 1312 hits, 302 doubles, 47 triples, 144 home runs and 636 RBIs. |
