El Paso's Wermter Reaches 1000 Hits Friday, September 29th , 2017 The box score from yesterday's game will show that El Paso beat the Chicago Union, 9-6. It will also show that left fielder Jim Wermter went 2-for-4 for the Diablos. It will not show, however, that Wermter reached the 1000-hit mark for his career. The 33-year-old Wermter reflected on the achievement after the game. He mused: "In one respect, it's a real milestone, I guess. Yet, it's just a base hit like any other base hit."
