Blues Shimmy Past Shamrocks, 3-2
|
In a low-scoring affair between the New York City Blues and the Boston Shamrocks, pitcher Leo Canales was the difference between victory and defeat. The New York City right-hander earned kudos in the 3-2 Blues win. Canales, now 2-0, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 11, walking 1, and allowing 2 runs. John McClinton, who finished 2nd in the PBC in saves with 17 last year, earned the save for New York City.
The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Jeremy Shackelford came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Boston pitcher Ryan Carden, he hit a 2-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting New York City on top, 3-2.
"Leo pitched his heart out," said New York City manager Jay Bourne.
With the loss, Boston sinks to 2-4.
