5-2 Win Gets Detroit to 41-29
|
Led by Mike Beyers, the Detroit Motors downed the Chicago Union, 5-2. Beyers went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Motors. Efrain Johnson got the win, improving to 10-3. He pitched 6.1 innings, giving up 4 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 2 and walking 3. With the win, the Motors hiked their record to 41-29.
Gil Lazo had a big run-scoring double for the Motors in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Detroit leading 2-1 and a runner on 2nd, he got a sinker from Matt Boatright and swatted a double to center. It was his 9th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Motors ahead, 3-1.
"The team always comes first," Lazo told a reporter while responding to autograph requests. "Our fans like to come out to see a win, so I'm happy to do what I can to give them that."
