Spirited fans greeted the Chicago Union for their clash with the Denver Cutthroats.

Brian Gilmour did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Chicago Union from being beaten, 8-4, to the Denver Cutthroats at Trident Field. Gilmour was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The win was credited to 26-year old right-handed pitcher Ryan Matlock in relief. His record improves to 2-3. Fidel Santiago took the loss.

Denver used the timely hitting of Victor Chavez to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Cutthroats on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

"You can never predict what'll happen," Chavez said. "That's why you play the game."

After today's action, Denver sits at 13-10, while Chicago falls to 8-15.
