Shamrock Grounds hosted an old-fashioned pitchers' duel.
Atlanta Pilots pitcher Alex Perez was in fine form, leading his team past the Boston Shamrocks, 2-1. Perez, now 3-2, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 9, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. Junro Yano was credited with the save for Atlanta, his 6th of the season.
Dillon Anthony, who finished 4th in the PBC in batting average with .327 in 2011, had a direct impact on the outcome. Anthony contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning to put Atlanta up, 2-1.
"Alex looked like he had more finish on his ball," said Atlanta manager Erik Swartzwelder.
The win puts Atlanta at 14-9 this season.
