Detroit Offense Jammed Up by Shamrocks
|
Boston Shamrocks pitcher Sam Payno was in top form, leading his team past the Detroit Motors, 3-1. Payno, now 1-2, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. The Motors, 6-6, continue their so-so start to the 2017 season.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Shamrocks had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fourth, when second baseman Carl Bevly hit a 2-run single. The single came off Iulio Faletau and made the score 3-1, Shamrocks. Bevly was 3-5 with a double and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs.
"Every play was important. Every out was important," said Shamrocks manager Wally Christensen.
