Griffith Gets Award for Relief Work

Landon Griffith said his performance in 2016 was a "statement" to the entire league.

"As an impending free agent you feel like you've got something to prove, something to work for to ensure that next contract," said the Mexico City Aztecas pitcher, who is seemingly heading for free agency.

The bullpen ace certainly proved himself this year, and he has won the
Western Semi-Pro Circuit Reliever of the Year Award.

The Brockton, Massachusetts native had a 2.64 ERA this season over 78.1 innings of work. He made 47 relief appearances and had 12 saves, 83 strikeouts, 36 walks and a record of 5-6. Opponent batters hit only .203 against him.

He received 13 first place votes out of a possible 20. Cody Reilly of the Vacaville Steelheads finished second in voting with 1 first place vote, while Jim Vela of the Green Bay Braves finished third with 5 first place votes.
