Series Lead Cut to 1 for El Paso After 5-4 Loss
The Houston Mavericks have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading El Paso Diablos, winning, 5-4, at Mavericks Ballpark. Mavericks right-hander Matt Zuniga threw 8.2 innings of 4-hit ball. The win cuts the deficit facing the Mavericks to 3-1 in the best-of-7 Cup Qualifier.

An inflection point occurred with no one out in the bottom of the third. That's when Mavericks center fielder Ken Johnson hit a fastball from Jesse Steele for a 2-run double. Just like that, Houston was up, 2-1.

Houston manager Kevin Read commended his team for "banging out a nice win."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Mavericks Ballpark in Houston.
