Mavericks Need Extra Innings to Top Diablos, 6-4
Fans got some free baseball at Inferno Field.

El Paso got a terrific performance from pitcher Kevin Mooris, but it wasn't enough to beat the Houston Mavericks. Houston won the Inferno Field contest, 6-4. Mooris threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball for the losing team. Houston reliever Matthew Browning picked up the win, upping his record to 7-1. Ryan Matlock absorbed the loss.

Houston needed the clutch hitting of Alan Tompkins to seal the deal. The left fielder swatted a 2-run home run in the top of the 12th inning to put the Mavericks on top, 6-4. For the game, Tompkins had 1 home run and 1 single in 6 at-bats.

"There's a warrior mentality with this team," said Mavericks manager Kevin Read.

The Mavericks saw their win-loss record go to 34-24. At the same time, the Diablos fell to 38-20.
