Houston Neutralizes New York City, 2-1
|
Houston Mavericks starter Matt Zuniga turned in a sterling performance against the New York City Blues, leading his team to a slim, 2-1 win. Zuniga, now 7-7, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. With the win over New York City, the Mavericks improved to 40-28.
The Mavericks got a big at-bat from designated hitter Neal Lasher. For the game, Lasher was 2 for 4 with a double. He drove in 2 runs. In the bottom of the third, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 16th double of the season gave Houston a 2-1 lead.
"Matt did a good job of managing their lineup," said Houston manager Kevin Read.
