Lions Take Tight Tangle
Blues Field hosted a real pitchers' duel.

New York City got a valiant performance from pitcher Leo Canales, but it wasn't enough to beat the St. Louis Lions. St. Louis won the game, 2-1. Canales threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball for the losing team. Ryan Reutter earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2 innings. His record is now 3-1.

St. Louis used the timely hitting of Andy Kifer to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Lions on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

Kifer told reporters after the game: "Close wins always feel extra good."

The Lions, now 20-18, have won 8 in a row.
