If the Vacaville Steelheads were expecting the pressure of the playoffs to get to Tom Thompson, they underestimated the old man.

The Mexico City Aztecas got a strong start from the 37-year-old right-hander. Thompson threw 6.0 innings of 2-hit ball as Mexico City won the contest, 3-1, at Ballpark of Vacaville to take the lead in their best-of-7 series with the Steelheads. The Aztecas now lead 1-0.

The Aztecas had to work out of trouble in the bottom of the ninth. The score was 3-1, Mexico City, with one out. Vacaville, with a runner on 1st, was mounting a threat. Chris Ring dug in at the plate, but on a 2-2 fastball, he struck out.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Ballpark of Vacaville in Vacaville.
