Grove Torches Empires for 5 Hits
It doesn't happen very often, but it did for Wayne Grove -- a 5-hit effort. He went on a rampage at Empires Stadium and paced the 9-6 Aztecas win over the Southern California Empires.

After his dynamite batting performance, the Mexico City first baseman told reporters that he "just tried to get in a good count and have a good at-bat. That's all I can control."

His philosophy paid dividends today. He slammed 5 hits in 6 tries and put his name in the record book. Wayne Grove hit an RBI double in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, grounded out in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off John Candle in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.

For the year, Grove has hit at a .363 clip with 41 RBIs, 6 home runs and 26 runs scored.
