September's Best Rookie in a Class by Himself Wednesday, October 1st , 2008 Paul Shumate is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Semi-Pro Baseball Circuit Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers. In September the Vancouver hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .239 average with 17 hits, 5 home runs and 15 RBIs. So far this season, Shumate is batting .195 with 9 home runs, 24 RBIs and 28 runs scored. He has 49 hits in 251 at-bats, 23 walks and a .271 OBP. Shumate has played in 70 games. |
