Southern California Beats Green Bay 4-0, Fielding Ks 17
Sunday, September 28th , 2008
Everything was working for Mark Fielding at Empires Stadium. He had the perfect delivery. The ball was moving. The splitter was working.
In an unforgettable performance, the 33-year-old Fielding fanned 17 Braves and sparked the 4-0 Southern California Empires victory over Green Bay. He left Braves hitters mumbling and muttering at the plate. And when he needed a strikeout, he got it.
"I don't know if there are many times that I've seen him throw better," said Southern California manager John Andrews. "His location and command were really something."
In addition to collecting 17 strikeouts over 8.2 innings, Fielding allowed 1 hit and 1 walk in a superlative outing.
"I thought I'd make it easy on the guys today," Fielding said with a smile.
Thus far this season, Fielding has posted a 5-2 record, started 7 games, struck out 64 batters in 68.2 innings and compiled a 2.75 ERA.
