Thornley Wins Award for SPBC Dominance
Monday, October 27th , 2008
Simon Thornley said his performance in 2008 was a "statement" to the entire league.
"As an impending free agent you feel like you've got something to prove, something to work for to ensure that next contract," said the Vacaville Steelheads pitcher, who is seemingly heading for free agency.
The bullpen ace certainly proved himself this year, and he has won the Semi-Pro Baseball Circuit Reliever of the Year Award.
The New York native had a 1.75 ERA this season over 51.1 innings of work. He made 34 relief appearances and had 24 saves, 66 strikeouts, 15 walks and a record of 3-2. Opponent batters hit only .211 against him.
He received 18 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Cody Reilly of the Newark Eagles finished second in voting, while Chris Kaplan of the Ottawa Capitals finished third.
