Empires Land Close Win
The Southern California Empires and the Mexico City Aztecas played into extra innings before the winner was determined. The Empires won it, 9-8, in 10 innings. In the game, Southern California second baseman Johnny Stokes was 5 for 6 with a home run, a double, and 3 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Southern California reliever Andrew Daugherty was credited with the win. His record goes to 2-6. Josh Schisler took the loss for Mexico City. Picking up the save was 32-year old left-handed pitcher Keith Feldman.

Southern California used the timely hitting of Tom Hutchinson to capture the win. The catcher socked a grand slam home run in the top of the tenth inning to put the Empires ahead, 9-5. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a big one.

"Exciting game to play in," said Hutchinson. "Getting the win makes it even better."

Southern California occupies 4th place in the West Division at 32-42.
