Winnipeg and Edmonton duked it out and the Buffaloes came out victorious.

The Winnipeg Buffaloes topped the Edmonton Drillers, 10-7, at Goldeyes Park. Winnipeg third baseman Dan Griffin was a spark plug for the offense. He went 1 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. The winner was Winnipeg reliever Pete Burrow, now 1-0. The loser was Chris Goyer.

The Drillers had been locked in a 7-7 tie with the Buffaloes going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 27-year old second baseman Josh Russell came to the plate. Russell hit a run-scoring double on a first pitch fastball from Edmonton hurler Chris Goyer. It was Russell's 12th double of the year.

"Being in first place now is good," said Griffin. "Being in first at the end of the season is better. That's our goal."

Winnipeg has won 3 straight, while Edmonton has lost 3 in a row.
