The Newark Eagles had to reckon with Southern California Empires hurler Aidan Kelly. Kelly, who is tied for 6th in the SPBC in wins with 8, overwhelmed the opposition in the 8-1 Empires triumph. At 29-40, the Empires find themselves in 4th place in the West Division.

Johnny Stokes had a big 3-run home run for the Empires in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Southern California leading 2-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a sinker from Jason Schiavo, who finished 2nd in the SPBC in innings pitched with 165.1 last year, and punished it. The result was his 13th home run of the season, which put the Empires on top, 5-0.

Stokes attributed the win to his team's "focus and intensity."
