Drillers Take Nail-Biter Over Empires
|
The Edmonton Drillers used a stellar performance from pitcher John Higgins to throttle the Southern California offense en route to an extra-inning, 4-1 win at Drillers Field. Edmonton reliever Lance Beyer picked up the win, raising his record to 1-0. Allberto Menagem was tagged with the loss. Southern California has now lost 5 straight.
Edmonton got a knockout punch from Bob Crespo. The right fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the bottom of the 13th inning to win the game. It might've been his only hit, but it decided the outcome.
"John was the star," said Edmonton manager George Muller.
