Ottawa got a first-rate effort from pitcher Markus Niemikorpi, who frustrated Newark hitters en route to a 2-1 Capitals triumph at Capitals Stadium. Niemikorpi got the win, improving to 3-2. He gave up 5 hits and walked 3 over 7.2 innings. He allowed 1 run. Chris Kaplan earned his 9th save, after closing out the game.
