Detroit got a terrific performance from pitcher Justin Martin, but it wasn't enough to beat the Albany Senators. Albany won the Chargers Field contest, 4-2. Martin threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball for the losing team. Alan Staubitz got the win, improving to 2-0. He held the Chargers to 2 runs on 3 hits over 7 innings, while striking out 10 and walking 2. Corey Ferrari, who finished 2nd in the SPBC in ERA with 2.40 last year, earned the save for Albany.

Albany used the timely hitting of Heriberto Rodriguez to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Senators on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

After the game, Albany manager Luke Garwood applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.

For the Chargers, the loss makes them 5-11.
