Hamilton Edges Newark, 4-3
|
The Hamilton Tigers did just enough to sneak past the Newark Eagles, 4-3, at Hamilton Park. Hamilton pitcher Carlton Michael, in particular, had a standout performance. Picking up the save was Pete Block, his 2nd. Newark, with the loss, is 4-6.
The Tigers got a big at-bat from designated hitter Dave Oppelt. For the game, Oppelt went 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the third, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave Hamilton a 3-1 lead.
"We need to string a few more wins like this one together," said Oppelt.
