van der Meijden Swings Empires to 11-6 Win
The Southern California Empires powered past the Vacaville Steelheads, 11-6, at Empires Stadium. Tonny van der Meijden went 3 for 5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4, to lead the charge. John Schukraft earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 3 hits in 3.1 innings. He upped his record to 1-2. The Empires are now 44-43, while the Steelheads fall to 48-39.

Had Eric Larremore not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Larremore hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 7-6, in favor of the Empires.
