Empires third baseman Mike Reed left his mark on his team's 6-5 win over the Vacaville Steelheads. Reed was 2 for 3 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once for Southern California in the contest. Jeff Crouse earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 2 innings. He upped his record to 2-1. With this game in the books, Southern California is 42-43, Vacaville 48-37.
Taylor Nahrgang, who is tied for 7th in the SPBC with a .879 OPS, took Vacaville hurler Chris LaBriola deep in the bottom of the eighth. His solo home run put the Empires on top, 6-5. In all, Nahrgang had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
