Tim Wharton, who is tied for 10th in the SPBC in quality starts with 12, was terrific for the Vacaville Steelheads in his team's 4-1 triumph over the Calgary Caracals. His performance earned Wharton rave reviews. The win elevated the Steelheads to 35-34.

Chris Pennington had a big solo home run for the Steelheads in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Vacaville leading 2-1 and the bases empty, he got a fastball from Steve Arthur, who is a two-time All-Star, and swatted a home run to right. It was his 4th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Steelheads ahead, 3-1.

"Enjoyed this one," Pennington told the Vacaville Observer. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
