The Southern California Empires spoiled a good performance by Mexico City first baseman Kevin Raith, bumping off Mexico City, 5-3, at Estadio Azteca. Raith was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Brian Wilson, credited with the win in relief, is now 8-2. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. The Empires are now 33-34, while the Aztecas fall to 16-51.
Kazuya Tsukamoto drove in one run for Southern California. The 32-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the top of the ninth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Kyle Boss. It was his 19th RBI of the season.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Southern California manager John Andrews.
