The St. Louis Lions ushered in the 2026 season with a win versus the Chicago Union at The Lions Hearth. The final score was 2-0. Starting Pitcher Benno de Smit, who finished 4th in the WC in strikeouts with 172 in 2024, had a standout performance. Jack Reynolds closed out the game, earning his 1st save.

de Smit tossed 131 pitches over 7.2 innings to clinch the win for the Lions. The right-hander allowed just 5 hits, while racking up 10 strikeouts in the game.
