Seattle Gulls starter Sam Payno turned in an exceptional performance against the Denver Cutthroats at Seagull Stadium, resulting in a Seattle win, 4-2. Payno, the winner, moves to 4-5. He threw 6 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 8 and giving up 4 walks. The win makes Seattle 19-31.

Seattle designated hitter Kevin Cooper contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With two down, he hit a sinker to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 38th hit of the season and put the Gulls ahead, 3-1.

"Sam has got a slow heartbeat," said Seattle manager Mike Beck. "He doesn't panic or anything."
