Cutthroats Fall Short at San Diego, 8-7
|
The San Diego Roadrunners overcame a good performance by Denver shortstop Mario Sanchez to knock off Denver, 8-7, at Tony Gywnn Park. Sanchez went 3-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 3 times. San Diego is now 24-21, while Denver is 15-30.
Ryan Merrill was the walk-off hero for San Diego. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Roadrunners right fielder hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"It wasn't a pretty victory," said Merrill, "but we got it done."
